Online Bingo Addict steals to support habit

March 19, 2010

A self confessed bingo addict was prosecuted for having stolen thousands of pounds just to support her online bingo addiction. Sujata Chaudry, 33 years old who’s based in Middlesbrough, gained a lot of debt from debit and credit card companies and ended up stealing from her employers after playing online bingo click here, on continuous nights.

Although she had stolen over £12,000 in 15 months from NETA training charity in Middlesbrough, she still could be able to pay it back in 28 days because she and her two sisters inherited a £400,000 house and £30,000 cash. This is according to Paul Abrahams – her barrister and her prosecutor, Richard Wilson.

She may have been involved in the online bingo addiction because of boredom since she started sitting in the house during the night playing online bingo on the computer. And if maybe she went out instead of staying in the house, she might be doing something beneficial. These were what the barrister assured the court.

Chaudhry, who worked in the Administration Department at NETA and lives in Cambridge Road, apparently was first suspected of stealing £12,519 in total since September 2007 and then lately, March of last year. She eventually pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud from abusing her position.

Judge Bryan Foster QC told Chaudhry that she had become too involved or addicted to the game which is something an online bingo player should be careful of. You won’t get caught into the dangers of gambling if you, as a player, would recognize the early warning signs of becoming addicted before it could be too late.
